Croatian Naïve Art in the village of Hlebine

Hlebine is a center of Croatian naïve art. It is the birth town of Franjo Mraz, Krsto Hegedušić, Ivan Generalić, Josip Generalić and Franjo Gaži. Franjo Mraz (April 4, 1910 in Hlebine – October 26, 1981 in Brežice) was a notable Croatian artist. Together with Ivan Generalić and Mirko Virius, he is considered to be a founder of Croatian naïve art. His most famous paintings are "Oranje" ("Ploughing") and "Zima" ("Winter"). Naïve art is a classification of art that is often characterized by a childlike simplicity in its subject matter and technique. More information is available in the Croatian Naïve Art Museum in Hlebine.
