Biosphere Reserve
Natura 2000 Sites, Ormánság
The Natura 2000 Sites of “Ormánság” consist of two parts: the forests (10532.05 ha) plus wetlands and grasslands of Ormánság (1414.3600 ha). Characteristic hillocks, called “orma” in Hungarian, emerge from the floodplains of the river Dráva. Due to the frequent floods villages were built on these hillocks, and they gave the landscape this specific name. The remaining forest patches are home to a number of breeding pairs of black storks, ravens and black kites.
