Bee eater and sand martin colony

A big colony of bee eaters (Merops apiaster) and sand martin (Riparia riparia) can be found at an impressive steep bank of the Drava close to the village of Heresznye (HU). Both birds have their nests and chicks in the sandy banks formed by the river. Due to river regulations and embankments natural steep banks have got very rare and are therefore nowadays most valuable habitats for birds and other animals. More information can be obtained in the info centre of the National park “Danube-Drava”.
